Rock Springs Water Company

There’s a new twist in a story we first told you about earlier this month concerning the fate of a troubled Centre County water company.

After a court motion was filed concerning a proposed ownership change, a state regulatory agency has filed a new motion in Centre County Court.

The State’s Public Utility Commission has filed a petition for intervention, concerning the future of the Rock Spring Water Company.

It comes after lawyers for the company went to court in mid January, asking a judge to approve the State College Water Authority to take over interim operations of Rock Spring while a possible sale to the authority could be finalized.

Whether or not a sale of Rock Spring could lessen the amount of further regulatory review and action, looks to be a key questions.

In the P.U.C. Motion, the Commission says its should be included in the proceeding, and that the Commission’s Independent Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement already has an ongoing review into whether the P.U.C. Should order
a Public Utility to acquire Rock Spring.

In fact, the P.U.C. Has a hearing scheduled in April on the issue.

Rock Spring is a small water company, with about a thousand customers.

The P.U.C court filing documents the company’s many infrastructure problems and violations that date back more than a decade.

In the court filing from earlier in the month, requesting the takeover action, the water company was labeled a clear and present danger to its customers.
