State police in Centre County have charged a Bellwood man for allegedly raping a woman early Sunday morning, according to a press release.
Investigators say around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, troopers were dispatched to Lykens Market to speak with the female victim.
Police say the victim accused 32-year-old Trevor Snowberger of sexually assaulting her earlier Sunday morning in Boggs Township.
Troopers say approximately 10 minutes later, police encountered Snowberger inside his parked vehicle at the intersection of Route 220 and Skytop Mountain Road.
Troopers say Snwoberger pulled out a weapon, while sitting in his vehicle, and ignored troopers’ commands.
Authorities say Snowberger then shot himself in the face, causing serious injuries.
Snowberger was transported by helicopter to UPMC Altoona, before being transferred to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for further treatment, the release states.
His condition is unknown at this time.
State police have issued an arrest warrant for Snowberger on charges of rape, unlawful restraint and sexual assault.
