The launch of the Centre County Solar and Electric Vehicle Charger co-op was announced earlier this morning.

The press conference was held at the University Area Joint Authority.

The nonprofit organization Solar United Neighbors will facilitate a bidding process to pick a single solar enterprise to complete final installations.

The field of panels is the largest municipally owned micro grid in the state of Pennsylvania, with the ability to generate some serious power.

“And what you see behind you is 22 acres of solar panels 5 megawatts of AC power that is generated on an annual basis and it represents about 75% of the total energy consumption of the University Area Joint Authority, so we are very close to achieving 100% renewable energy.”

The co-op is free to join for any and all residents and business owners in Centre County.
