State College Frat Lawsuit

The Borough of State College is taking the owner of the fraternity house at 329 East Prospect avenue to court on the grounds that zoning laws are being violated.

The house, formerly home to Sigma Alpha Mu, is zoned solely for fraternity use.

However, the fraternity lost recognition from Penn State University several years ago and also had its charter revoked by the national organization, and the borough says the current occupants are in violation as a result.

Sources say motivation behind the suit also comes from the fact that it is a nuisance property, as police had been called to the premises multiple times in twenty twenty, including when an intoxicated woman was left on the sidewalk and a man fell from a second floor balcony.
