To say the Pittsburgh Steelers defense has battled the injury bug this season would be the underside of the century. So from T.J. Watt, Micah Fitzpatrick, Joe Haden, Cam Heyward,
the Steelers have had to battle both with and without their services at some point this season.
Whether due to illness or injury, but somehow they continue to make do with the exception of the Chargers loss.
The defense has made great strides in recent weeks. It’s been nameless, great faces for Keith Butler this year when his stars have been out, and for the most part, they pick things up
quickly.
Talking yesterday, Butler attributed it to an oversimplified scheme with not too many intricate tricks to be.
“Glittery stuff like that, we try to simplify that, have a whole lot of different things that we want to run. We’ll try to stay away from a lot of checks and stuff like that.
Sometimes you can’t. Sometimes you have to do that. So we’ve been forcing our guys to pick it up and argue in our our coaches to teach it. You know, it takes a while.”
The Steelers have already declared four players out for tomorrow’s matchup with the Vikings, three on defense, one more on offense. So Joe Haden is out with a foot injury.
Robert Spillane is out with a knee injury,
Isaiah Buggs out with an ankle injury and DJ Finney out with a back injury.
Steelers in the Vikings kick off tomorrow night at 8:20.
