Steelers Update

Its time to do a post mortem on the Pittsburgh Steelers season which came to an end Sunday Night in Kansas City.

A great place to pick up is with 2 young pieces of the puzzle to the future of the Pittsburgh Steelers in what looks to be the post Ben Roethlisberger era.

Starting with safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Today Minkah talked about how he wants to stay in Pittsburgh and get a deal done.

He is vital for the success of the defense which certainly had its ups and downs in 2021.

But the reason the Steelers were able to sneak into the playoffs was huge performances defensively against Cleveland and Baltimore.

When asked to reflect on the secondary unit and its growth this year Fitzpatrick believes it is absolutely vital to bring everyone back.

Tight end Pat Freiermuth had an outstanding rookie campaign as a key piece of the Pittsburgh offense.

Toward the end of the year he was a reliable target and one Ben Roethlisberger was extremely comfortable going to especially in the red zone

The former Penn State Nittany Lion registered 60 catches on the year for 497 yards and 7 touchdowns.

He had an average of 8.3 yards per catch and had a stretch where he scored 5 times in 5 games
