A State College man has made it his mission, to bring law enforcement and community activists together to make change.
And with the seemingly increased tensions between officers and civilians across the nation, his work continues on.
“It’s a speaking and training bureau that deals that focuses on the topics of race, disability, gender and law enforcement.”
As a number of civilians have died at the hands of law enforcement in the public eye over the last few years, Terry Watson has risen to the occasion.
Here in State College, a disabled resident of the borough, Osaze Osagie, was tragically killed at his apartment building by police a few years ago.
Watson was called into action shortly after to act as a moderator of dialogue between law enforcement and activists, and the organization’s goals start with looking at racism differently.
“I stopped asking the question about racism and being racist. Instead, I was asking people how comfortable are they with the institution of white supremacy, because thats a different kind of question right? I could get a hundred people in a room and a hundred people would try to prove to me that they’re not racist but when I ask them how comfortable they are with their institutions of racism, thats a different ballgame.
Strategies for Justice will have an online symposium from April eighth to tenth bringing law enforcement and social justice advocates together.
