Tuggy Murder Trial Update

A trial date is set for the man accused of killing a woman in her Centre County home more than six years ago.

The suspect wasn’t arrested until last year, and police say he admits to the deadly shooting.

According to a recent court order, Christopher Kowalski will go on trial in late October this year.

Kowalski is charged with killing 61-year-old Jean Tuggy in her Pine Grove Mills home in Jan. of 2016.

Her death was a murder mystery for several years until investigators linked her to Kowalski, and tracked him down early last year in South Carolina, where he was living.

Police say Kowalski initially told them he shot Tuggy accidentally, but then admitted he killed her because he was depressed and having a mid-life crisis.

The two were friends and both worked at a State College area grocery store.

The new court order sets a pre-trial conference for mid-May, with jury selection scheduled in early October.

The trial itself is scheduled from Oct. 31 to Nov. 10. Kowalski’s attorney previously filed a motion saying he planned to use an insanity defense.
