University Park Airport Funding

A new initiative is on the runway in attracting new airline service to the University Park Airport in State College

Centre County leaders could be using federal Covid relief funding in the plan they believe will provide a major economic boost for the region.

Its a public/private funding partnership in putting together an incentive package to add a new destination out of University Park Airport. Centre County government heading up the public sector push

“So today were looking to authorize 250 thousand dollars as part of an incentive for American Airlines to add flights to Charlotte”

Its hoped an incentive package of half a million dollars will be raised, that will help cover the airline’s up front costs, if they add the Charlotte flights, which hopefully will be at least two
flights a day. American Airlines already ha service at University Park Airport, and they’ll meet with local officials here later this month about the new possibility

“This could add jobs here in Centre County, not just at the airport, but also for businesses and entrepreneur’s looking to locate here.plus the tourism boost for Centre County could go both ways, for those looking to travel here to take in the sights in Happy Valley”

Before last year and the pandemic slow down of airline service, the University Park Airport was seeing close to 385 thousand passengers a year.
