Vietnam Veterans where Honored throughout the day, including one at Cambria County’s War Memorial in Johnstown, there, Cambria and Somerset County, Vietnam War veterans and their families were recognized, as well as the thousands of men and women who were killed or labeled missing in action.
The day became a nationally recognized day back in 2017, when President Trump signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act.
Those at the ceremony acknowledged the challenges Vietnam veterans faced, but also how they overcame them.
“Vietnam veterans had a difficult time transitioning when there was no more so than most any war, but through their efforts and through their actions, they’ve now become, they become the senior people in the command. ”
The veteran community, and they’ve done a great job transitioning back to the community. The president and CEO of Veteran Community Initiatives also says many of our area Vietnam veterans have turned to serving the community without asking for anything in return.
