As our Baylee Wojcik spoke with Penelec officials Today, and tells us where efforts to restore power currently stand.
If you’ve been without power since Tuesday, there’s a chance you could still be in the dark for a few more days. That’s what a spokesperson with First Energy tells me after what he says was the worst storm this year.
Since Tuesday’s storm, Todd Meyers with First Energy says that crews have been working around the clock to restore power, with poles, wires, transformers, and other materials in need of repair across the state.
Based on weather predications, Meyers says crews were already preparing to tackle repairs Tuesday, but within moments of the storm hitting, he says that branches fell onto power lines, poles broke, and units were damaged.
So much so, that he says crews worked for 16 hours straight starting Tuesday evening to manage the power.
Now, he says that thousands of line workers, support staff, and tree trimmers have been out working to restore power.
However, Meyers adds that many community members might still be in the dark for several days due to what he calls a “multi-day restoration process
“We start working on the outages and the fixes that bring on the largest number of customers and we just keep working down until finally it’s that single that single wire maybe between your home, a tree branch may to come down and and the pole out on the street. Not that that customer is not important to us, but to get things done efficiently and to get things back on as quickly as possible. We tackle the fixes that bring on the most number of customers first.”
