East Taylor Fire Department Opens Shelter

And one local fire hall thats now running as a shelter, is providing food and electricity to it’s community

Here’s Emily Marines with more on the shelter and what some organizations are recommending to those who are still without power.

Chantelle East Taylor Township Fire Hall opened its doors last night after last nights storms ripped through and took out the community’s power.

Now residents are coming and going to charge electronics, and grab some food and drinks.

Chairman of Supervisors Rickey Price said this morning that after the storm ripped through last night pretty much the entire Township was left without power.

Since this morning Martins General Store in East Taylor donated several crates of items to the shelter including Milk and Iced Tea.

Price says that they are providing individuals with food and water even offering residents a stove to bring and cook their own food.

East Taylor officials say that they are hearing power may not be back on until Friday.

One resident says that this news is concerning

“I mean it makes me a little nervous. I have to really find somewhere to like shower. All my food is going to be spoiled. Everything in my fridge and freezer is going to need tossed you know and that’s going to cost a lot.”

There are concerns for others in the area without power especially those with medical conditions that require oxygen tanks.

Conemaugh Health System told us today that they urge patients to contact their oxygen suppliers to arrange additional tanks or liquid oxygen.

They also say that they encourage everyone to check on their family, friends, and neighbors that may be affected.

I also spoke with the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging today and they told me that they are handling everything on a case by case basis at the moment but are recommending individuals without power to visit local senior centers as they provide food and shelter.

As for the East Taylor shelter Price says they will remain open until power comes back on which may not be until Friday.
