Former Somerset County DA Pleaded No Contest In Domestic Violence Case

Authorities say former Somerset County District Attorney Jeff Thomas has pleaded no contest in the domestic violence case involving he and his wife.

Officials say Thomas was charged following an investigation into reports that he punched his wife in the head while they were traveling through the Johnstown-area during the early morning hours of May 15, 2021.

Prosecutors say Thomas appeared in court Tuesday where he entered the no contest plea to charges of misdemeanor simple assault.

“This conviction shows that no one is above the law and domestic violence will not be tolerated, My office will continue to prosecute these difficult cases regardless of who the defendant is.”

Authorities say Thomas was sentenced to two years probation, which he will serve concurrently with his 2 1/2 to 7 year prison sentence for his assault conviction in Somerset County.

Officials note that Thomas is also prohibited from possessing any firearms.
