When you think about 4th of July traditions, several may come to mind. Spending time with your Family, watching fireworks, maybe catching a baseball game, and eating hot dogs. There is one American who eats hot dogs better than the rest, and his name is Joey Chestnut. The Kentucky Native won his 15th Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest on Monday afternoon.
Joey “Jaws” gobbled down 63 hot dog and buns in 10 minutes. Chesnut continued his hot dog eating success outside of Nathan’s flagship shop in Brooklyn’s Coney Island neighborhood. The event was relocated in 2020 and 2021 due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. And if eating over 60 hot dogs isn’t impressive enough, check this out. Chestnut arrived at the Competition on crutches and in a boot due to a leg injury. On top of that, he put a Protester in a chokehold during his chase to victory.
In the Women’s Contest, Miki Sudo claimed her 8th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest win, which is a record in the Women’s contest. Sudo skipped last year’s contest because she was pregnant, but Sudo returned like she never left, downing 40 hot dogs and buns.
Nathan’s will donate 100,000 franks to the Food Bank for New York City.
