New 9-8-8 Crisis Hotline

The 988 National Suicide Prevention Hotline will go live in just 10 days.

The Laurel Highlands Police Crisis Intervention Team is made up of trained officers trained to respond to these situations.

The program teaches law enforcement professionals techniques & skills on how to to de-escalate people in a mental or behavioral health crisis.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will be reduced from this 10 digit number to 988

And now those in crisis will be connected directly to trained professionals just like these.

“The officers wear a pin similar to our logo here, so that they know, if they see that pin, they’re a CIT officer and they’re specially trained. The folks will definitely magnet toward them and know that they’re going to be treatedfairly and with respect when they’re dealing with someone.”

They will have another training this October at Penn Highlands Community College.
