A fire at Penn State University this morning led to the evacuation of the Chem Building.
Officials say around 11 a.m. Alpha Fire Company and Penn State Police responded to a chemical fume hood fire on the second floor of the Benkovic Building along the 300 Block of Science Drive.
There were no reported injuries, and Alpha Fire says that the blaze was well contained, however there was significant damage to the fume hood and the surrounding area.
Whether or not there were chemicals involved in the fire is still unclear.
“We’re still unsure. The initial report that we got from the University’s Environmental Agency was that there were chemicals in the room, however we don’t believe there to be any involved in the actual incident. However like I
said, it’s still under investigation.”
The Centre Region Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation.
Students and faculty were able to return to the buidling shortly after the incident.
