Penn State Trustee Meeting On Campus Closures

We might have to wait a little longer to hear more details about some Penn State Commonwealth Campuses that could possibly be forced to close.

Penn State’s Trustees met this morning and plan to meet again next week.

Thursday on the Penn State Trustee Website, a notice is posted about another Trustee meeting next Thursday about the Commonwealth Campuses.

After meeting for more than two hours behind closed doors in an executive session Thursday Morning, the Trustees deciding to meet again.

Earlier this week, during a court hearing, Penn State Trustee Barry Fenchak testified how the Trustees, until about a month ago were monitoring the Commonwealth Campus issue.

Up until then, Fenchak said it was expected the decision was coming solely from the University President’s office.

But after the Trustees found out they would be voting on it, Fenchak emphasized, they would probably need more time testifying that the possible closures of Commonwealth Campuses isn’t a decision that can easily be undone.

Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi this week issued a lengthy, preliminary report recommending seven campuses be closed.

At least several Trustees are already on record opposing the closing of any campuses.

Few details from Thursday’s morning session have been released, including the important question of whether there’s enough votes on the board to back the President’s recommendation.

Next Thursday’s trustee meeting that begins At 5 o’clock in the afternoon is listed as being public through video conferencing.
