Fernando Rosado-Guzman, the Philipsburg man charged earlier this month for his role in a deadly stabbing in Rush Township will soon head to trial.
Guzman appeared in Centre County court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing where his charges were bound over for trial.
Police say on the evening of August 19, Guzman and another individual were drinking and “hanging out” on the railroad tracks in the area of North Front Street.
According to the affidavit, Guzman told authorities that the victim, identified as Brian Lyncha, had allegedly approached him, “pushed him off his bike and started punching him in the face.”
Police say Guzman admitted to stabbing Lyncha but told investigators that he “had no choice” as it was the only way to get him (Lyncha) off of him.
Upon further investigation, police say the individual who was drinking with Guzman told investigators that Guzman had initiated the altercation.
Police say the witness allegedly attempted to separate the two men but was unsuccessful in doing so.
Authorities say Guzman reportedly stabbed Lyncha in the chest during the altercation.
Investigators say both men fled the scene prior to police arriving and the victim was found dead in a backyard along Flood Lane.
Guzman is being held at the Centre County Correctional Facility and his bail was denied.
