Arrest in United Band Boosters Theft

An arrest has been made in connection to the theft of more than $50,000 from the United Band Boosters Club. We have details on the arrest and the latest on the District’s plans to take a trip to Disney World.

Pennsylvania State Police say former Treasurer of the Boosters Lara Brown is being charged with the theft of United Band Booster’s missing funds. State Police say Brown allegedly used the stolen money to make purchases that did not benefit the Band Boosters at all, such as gas and groceries.

The money was originally raised for a trip for the Band to Disney World. The plan is still to join Penns Manor School District on the trip, but a Parent of Students involved says only Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and some Freshman are able to make the trip. The Parent says originally it was supposed to be all Band Members 7th grade and above.

The investigation started in December according to Authorities and took nearly three months, but the Indiana County District Attorney says a Theft Investigation can take a while. Indiana County DA Robert Manzi Jr. saying: “I can understand people’s frustration that an arrest does not occur within a week. It simply requires a lengthy period of time in order to determine the flow of money.”

Brown is being held in the Indiana County Jail with a $100,000 Bail.
