Bellefonte Intersection Work

Bellefonte Borough officials and Penndot are looking for the public’s input regarding the safety of the Zion Road/Parkview Boulevard Intersection.

While the number of accidents at the intersection along Route 55 have been low, it’s been the location of several near accidents over the years.

A group of Bellefonte residents even started a petition a little over a year ago to bring attention to the intersection what the residents call unsafe. With over 200 people signing the petition.

The Borough has hired a engineer to work out the design for a traffic light at the intersection.

Since it’s a State roadway, Penndot is looking for more information regarding safety issues.

“We’re just trying to make the case that there are some safety concerns there, because the actual volume of accidents has been very low, so we’re trying to say you just can’t look at the number of accidents
please look at the near misses.”

“I have seen many near misses, I myself do not use this intersection because it’s unsafe.”

Residents are also concerned that with the planned elementary school of of nearby Airport Road, that could increase traffic in the area, which they feel is another reason for a traffic light.

The Borough is asking for feedback through their website from now until Friday, and then the comments will be forwarded to Penndot for consideration.
