New information was released about the fatal plane crash in Cambria County that killed two people on-board on Sunday. We went to the scene to hear the latest directly from Investigators. Its in this wooded area where Investigators are concentrating on recovering the victims and the plane since Sunday. We heard from the NTSB as well on how there investigation will proceed.
It was near Rorabaugh Road, where it happened. Emergency Crews at the scene, gathering what is left in scattered debris field inside these woods. Officials began looking for the Twin-engine Piper pa 30 at 9:30am Sunday morning, finding it at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees says both people were pronounced dead at the scene. He says two males in the plane took off from Ebensburg Airport en route to Ocean City Maryland. He says he has presumptive identities of both males and has talked to their families. Lees says their identities are being withheld until they can be confirmed through DNA testing.
Crews will be there over the next couple days as they collect remains of victims and plane. Lees says they are working on recovering their remains. He says the rough terrain is slowing down recovery efforts. Lees says the debris field they are working on is about the size of a football field and is an extremely dense wooded area.
Police saying the area is approximately 75 by 200 meters in size. The NTSB telling us they will have an Investigator here to document the scene and examine the plane. They say they also will look at air traffic communications, radar data, weather reports and contact any witnesses. They say they will also look for maintenance records of the plane as well as the pilot’s medical history.
