Cameron County Ambulance Service has reached a major milestone as it is now officially licensed to provide advanced life support services to residents and visitors across the county.
The new certification allows specially trained providers to deliver a higher level of prehospital care.
Officials with CCAS say several EMTs are also working toward advanced certifications to help expand capabilities.
Leaders say they still plan to continue partnering with paramedic-level ALS agencies when needed.
“Especially being in a rural area, obviously, our closest hospital is 20 minutes away. Our closest ALS provider is 20 minutes away. So, becoming IALS, that gives patients quicker advanced life support services compared to having to pull alongside of the road,”
Officials say they will also be getting another ambulance truck in the future to help advance services in the community.
