Looking ahead a popular annual event on the Spring cleaning calendar returns this weekend in Centre County.
Its the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority’s household hazardous waste collection event this Friday and Saturday.
It provides an opportunity to safely dispose of old containers of various, chemical based items that you may have stored in the basement or garage.
You have to pre-registerd for the event,and in recent years, its inlcuded a growing number of people from out of Centre County.
Organizers thought the collection would only last a few years when it started because after that,most of the materials would of been disposed, but that hasnt been the case.
“We get anywhere from 8 hundred to a thousand cars every Spring, people still have household hazardous waste, even though we’ve been putting this event on for over 20 years. We still get hundreds and hundreds of people coming out.”
The collection is held at the authority’s headquarters in College Township near the Nittany Mall. They stress they will not accept latex paint, motor oil, medications, ammunition, or explosives.
