State College Residents Happy With Policing

Most State College residents say they feel safe in their community but do have some concerns about certain types of crimes.

That’s according to a survey of borough residents done last fall by the National Research Center.

An overwhelming number, over 90 percent, say they feel safe in their neighborhood or downtown.

There was also generally strong support for the State College Police Department with 80 percent of the respondents saying the response to police calls was excellent.

Among specific crime concerns though, 70 percent identified sexual assaults as a major or moderate problem in the borough.

That was followed by underage drinking, DUI, and disorderly conduct.
