Fatal State College Accident

Authorities in Centre County say an 83-year-old State College resident died over the weekend after crashing into a concrete wall near a local construction site.

Police say on Saturday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of “A” Alley, which runs between South Allen and Pugh Streets, for a report of a one-vehicle crash.

Investigators say the driver was reportedly navigating through the parking lot of the Schlow Library when the vehicle “accelerated” through the parking lot and into the alleyway.

Authorities say the car then crashed into a concrete wall that borders the construction site of the former State College Days Inn.

Police say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and her passenger, a 78-year-old woman, was flown to Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville, with severe injuries.

Investigators say the passenger is in stable condition and authorities are not yet releasing the identity of the driver.

Authorities say drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash and the cause is still under investigation.
