The State Legislature is trying to address what they say is the abuse of the Porting process in the housing choice voucher program.
We’ve previously reported on this explaining how applicants on a wait list for public housing in Philadelphia claim residency in Johnstown obtain a voucher there stay for a few months then leave for Philadelphia.
This week the Senate approved a measure sponsored by Senator Wayne Langerholc.
Resolution 45 calls on the US Department of Housing and Urban Development to address this abuse since it’s the department that oversees the program.
Langerholc is also sponsoring Senate Bill 98 which looks to establish public housing safety committees to properly vet the criminal records of potential residents.
