Authorities with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland announced Wednesday that a Reedsville, Mifflin County man has been taken into custody following an investigation into the disappearance of a Huntingtown, Maryland man.
Officials say 51-year-old Joseph Anthony Shymanski was reported missing by his family on Monday, Sept. 4th.
Upon further investigation, authorities say detectives determined that foul play was suspected in his disappearance.
On Wednesday, detectives traveled to Reedsville, Pennsylvania to execute several search warrants at a home in Brown Township.
Authorities say a suspect, 47-year-old Brandon Holbrook, was taken into custody and has been charged with first and second-degree murder and assault.
Police say Holbrook is being held in the Mifflin County Jail where he awaits extradition to Maryland.
Investigators note that there is no threat to the public and it was determined to be an isolated incident.
Mifflin County Regional Police, state police and FBI officials from State College all assisted with the investigation.
Police add that residents of Reedsville and the greater Brown Township area should expect to see a large law enforcement presence, periodically, over the next day or so.
