A tense situation in Cambria County happened Thursday morning, ending with a suspect in custody.
Richland Township Police said they were alerted to a domestic situation.
When they responded, police say they were told the man, who was alleged to be involved, took off, while armed with a handgun.
Investigators said they tracked him to a home along Banyon Drive, but the suspect refused to meet or talk to officers.
Police then called in the Cambria County Special Emergency Response Team, which was able to negotiate a peaceful surrender.
Richland Township Police Chief Michael Burgan said having SERT’s assistance was key.
“It helps deescalate the situation; they have a lot of resources. They have trained negotiators that come in and help and it helps bring the level down, and we’ve been very successful in coming to a good resolution.”
Police said the standoff lasted close to three hours, but they had been searching for the suspect overnight.
He was taken to central booking to await charges.
