Special Centre County President Judge Election

A special election is expected to fill the vacancy in Centre County court with the announcement that the president judge will be retiring at the end of the year.

However, for the candidates seeking to be the next county judge, it could be a short campaign season.

Judge Pamela Ruest, Centre County ‘s first female judge, and also the first woman to be the county’s president judge, plans to retire at the end of the year after 15 years on the bench.

The county has four judges, and the question is how soon will the vacancy be filled in the judicial lineup.

“There will be an election during the 2023 spring primary and general election. For the time being, senior judges and Judge Ruest will fill in.”

With the spring primary next year set for May 16th, that leaves candidates only a few months of campaigning.

The term of office for the next judge in Centre County begins at the first of the year in 2024.
