Truck Rollover Causes Turnpike Closure

An accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Monday morning caused a portion of the road to be closed. Around 9:15 Monday morning, a tractor trailer rolled over between mile markers 128-129. According to Somerset County Dispatch, the tractor trailer was hauling paper and rolled over from the Westbound lanes into the Eastbound lanes. Dispatch also tells us the driver of the truck was injured, but able to get of the cab and walk around.

PennDOT closed the roadway between Breezewood in Bedford County to New Stanton in Westmoreland County. The detour has since been lifted. The Turnpike reopened shortly after 2pm Monday afternoon. Initial calls stated a rolled over tractor trailer around mile marker 130 near New Baltimore. Dispatchers say the call came in at 9:14 Monday morning.

Both sides of the Turnpike were closed for approximately five hours and caused a nearly ninety-mile detour around the Turnpike. The truck driver suffered minor injuries, but was reportedly up and walking around after the fact. However, during the cleanup process, a person was seriously injured, badly enough to be flown to a nearby Hospital. Still no word on the injured person’s condition.
