The baseball field at Hamilton Park was dedicated at 6 p.m. Sunday to Gene “Coach Geno” Himes, who used the field for decades to teach and practice baseball.
The ceremony was open to the public. Central Blair Recreation Commission Executive Director Michael Hofer and Dave Ellis, representing City Council, are scheduled to speak alongside Himes’ family members.
The field dedication comes on what would have been Himes’ 67th birthday. Himes died of prostate cancer on April 4, 2022.
The field is located at 301 East Cherry Ave. in Altoona.
