In Blair County, the Freedom Ride bicycle ride took place Tuesday morning. The yearly bike ride filled the Tyrone community to support Veterans. Organizers say this is the 11th year for the event which benefits the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center. Close to 500 riders were estimated to have participated this year.
The ride was started by some friends on July 4th, 2011 and has continued to grow since. Patrick Thornton, Vice President of the Freedom Ride saying: “I look forward to everybody I get to see brand new babies and new freedom riders coming and we’re only going to get bigger and bigger.”
Last year they raised about $50,000 dollars and they’re hoping to exceed that amount this year.
