State police released a few additional details Monday on the investigation into a missing Berlin woman, Tammy Berkey.
Investigators say on the evening of Aug. 11, troopers were dispatched to a residence along Mason Dixon Highway, in Brothersvalley Township, for a welfare check of Berkey.
Authorities say troopers arrived at the home and spoke with Berkey’s brother, identified as James Foy Jr., who also lived at the residence.
Police say while troopers were searching the residence, Foy allegedly went into another room of the home where he reportedly committed suicide.
Troopers say life-saving measures were attempted but that Foy succumbed to his injuries, which were the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators say police continued to search the residence over the weekend but Berkey’s whereabouts are still unknown.
Anyone with information is asked to contact state police in Somerset at 814-445-4104.
Authorities confirmed that the Mercyhurst University forensic anthropology team was called to the residence on Sunday.
Authorities also noted that,
“At this time, we do not have any reason to believe there is any immediate threat and or danger to the public due to this unfortunate tragedy.”
