Pandemic Education Loss

Today is Read Across America Day the national observance for the birthday of children’s book author Dr. Seuss.

Leaders at Greater Johnstown Elementary School hosted over 60 students, community members, and lawmakers to read to their students.

Read Across America has a special meaning this year since the last 3 years have been filled with virtual learning from the pandemic.

Educators tell us that has contributed to learning loss with students being absent from the classroom.

Elementary leaders say by honoring reading, books, and learning they’re ready to make up for lost learning time.

The National Center for Education statistics shows that during the pandemic reading scores saw the biggest drop since the 1980’s.
