911 officials in Somerset County say a gas leak prompted temporary evacuations in Somerset Borough late Wednesday morning.
Authorities say crews were working on water lines, just after 10 a.m., when they reportedly struck a gas line in the area of South Columbia Avenue and West Church Street.
As a precaution, officials say residents in the immediate vicinity were asked to temporarily evacuate their homes.
Authorities said that this was the third reported gas leak in the borough this year.
Dispatchers say Columbia Gas officials and Penelec were contacted and residents were able to return to their homes a short time later.
