Somerset County American Legion Theft

State police in Somerset County say a Markleton woman is facing charges, accused of stealing more than $38,000 from a local American Legion post and using it to make payments on online gambling sites.

Troopers say Regina Sanner, 43, was hired in Sept. of 2020 to be the manager of the American Legion Post #279, located along Rockdale Road in Black Township.

Authorities say the investigation into Sanner began in June, after the club’s finance committee noticed multiple discrepancies.

Investigators say Sanner allegedly used the club’s credit card to make numerous payments on the online gambling website FanDuel.

According to the affidavit, troopers say, from January to April of this year, Sanner allegedly made over the $23,000 in payments to the site using the club’s funds.

Police say further investigation revealed that Sanner had also made a single $500 payment to BetRivers using the legion’s credit card.

Additionally, troopers say Sanner reportedly wrote several unauthorized checks, either to herself or an unspecified recipient, totaling approximately $14,000.

Sanner was arraigned earlier this week on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and unauthorized access, according to online court records.

She has since been released on unsecured bail.
