The man who gunned down Worshippers at Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018 is guilty of all charges. That’s the verdict from a Jury in Pittsburgh.
Among the charges against Robert Bowers are 11 counts of Obstruction of the Free Exercise of Religious Beliefs resulting in Death, a Capital Offense — making the 50-year-old eligible for the Death Penalty. Bowers was also convicted of 11 counts of Hate Crimes resulting in Death.
The Mass Shooting left 11 people dead and 6 wounded. It was the deadliest attack on Jewish people in U.S. history.
Following the Verdict, relief and gratitude toward those in the Justice System were expressed by those with ties to Tree of Life Synagogue. Jo Recht, President of Congregation Dor Hadash saying: “I am feeling a sense of relief that after four and a half years, the world has heard again about the horrific acts on October 27, 2018, and the shooter is being held accountable for those awful acts.”
Next, the Trial will enter a second phase — in which the Jury will decide whether to sentence Bowers to death.
