Equitrans Gas Leak Impact

The two-week long gas leak in Cambria County last month is being called one of the worst U.S. Climate Disasters of the year by Bloomberg News. The report published on Tuesday stated the amount of gas released from the Equitrans Storage Well in Jackson Township was enough to “Effectively erase the emission gains from about half of the electric vehicles sold in the U.S. last year.”

The leak was found November 6th and reportedly spewed an estimated 1.29 Billion cubic feet of Methane over the 2-week period. Bloomberg reports that Methane has 80-times the warming power of Carbon Dioxide in it’s first 2 decades — the equivalent to the yearly emissions of about 400,000 vehicles.
