Authorities say a 16-year-old Ridgway girl has been charged with stabbing another juvenile.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, at about 12:32 a.m. on July 8, Chelse Kurtz, of Elk Avenue, reportedly stabbed a 15-year-old girl in her abdomen near Center Street in Ridgway Borough.
The stabbing took place during an altercation between the two girls, according to the affidavit.
Officials say the victim was flown to UPMC Altoona where she underwent surgery for damage to her internal organs.
Police say Kurtz allegedly admitted to the stabbing during an interview and told officers the location of the knife that was used during the fight. Police found the knife in a nearby sewer drain, according to the affidavit.
Kurtz has been charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault, second-degree felony aggravated assault, second-degree misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person, third-degree misdemeanor simple assault and third-degree misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
She was arraigned Friday before District Judge Barry Brown, of Cameron County, and sent to the Elk County Prison in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. July 26 before District Judge James Martin, of Johnsonburg.
